OH YEAH, IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN
Why do some people have the knack to remain calm and relaxed even in the most stressful situations? I believe that I am calm in most situations but there are a few people who push my buttons or there are situations that “crop” up that are out of my control that stress me out. Our life is full of hassles, deadlines, frustrations, and demands. But what I refuse to let happen is to let stress become such commonplace in my life that it becomes a way of life. Stress isn’t always bad. In small doses, it can help you perform under pressure and motivate you to do your best. But when you are constantly running in emergency mode, your mind and body pay the price.
If you habitually find yourself feeling weary and inundated, it is time to change your way of life and do something about it. I am a firm believer in balance. When all the things in life are in balance, you feel the best. Plus you need balance in order to protect yourself from the harmful effects of stress. First thing you need to do is take charge of your thoughts (ask for God’s guidance), your emotions, your schedule (in my case, I need to learn to say no), your environment, and the way you deal with problems (don’t let “those” people get under your skin).
Stress management involves changing the stressful situation when you can, changing your reaction when you can’t, taking care of yourself, and making time to rest and relax with those you love.
Here are a few of the things that I do when I am in the “stress” zone:
1. I ask the Lord for help. We have to realize we can’t do this on our own.
2. I ask the Lord for guidance.
3. I read and study the Word of God (Bible), this is how the Lord speaks to us and reveals things to us.
4. I don't beat myself up. We all are human so realize that. We all make mistakes. This is not an excuse to sin but if you do sin ask God to forgive you and to help you to not repeat your mistakes.
5. I forgive myself. This is probably the most difficult thing for us as Christians to do. I know it is for me. God forgives and throws your sin into the sea to never be remembered again. Unfortunately we do not forget our failures so, learn from your mistakes and forgive yourself. God is not going to hold something against you when you have asked for forgiveness.
6. I forgive others (yes sometimes over and over again). If someone has hurt you, you have to forgive them. Again, I know it is hard but it is something God has commanded us to do, just like he has forgiven us.
7. If you have the funds, time or inclination, give back and don’t expect something in return. Also, pray for those who are need your prayers.. earnestly and without ceasing. God will bless you in His own time.
I will be praying for you...
